TIRA - Task Inventory Risk Assessment Module

Health and Safety requires employees to undertake suitable and sufficient risk assessments; part of a risk assessors duties may include the creation of a task inventory risk assessment list. A task inventory can be as simple as a list of workplace activities and records dates, identified hazards, existing controls, and remedial actions.  Any full risk assessments needed can then be linked to the task inventor, allowing an easily retrievable system for controlling all the organisations risk assessment requirements. Creating task inventory risk assessment list of critical jobs will require: A review specific tasks conducted by employees, staff and may even include contractors. If you have a large workplace, start by identifying 1. departments within your workplace. 2. identify the different occupations within those departments. 3. listing the jobs or tasks undertaken by each one of the occupational groups. A review the equipment used at the workplace \ work-site. There may be multiple jobs or tasks done with one piece of equipment. Activity: Once the workplace has been divided logically into work sectors a complete inspection of all workplace tasks should be carried out. This will develop into a comprehensive inventory of all the tasks conducted throughout the workplace. The inventory should reflect all hands-on work associated with each occupation or major work assignment. Hazards: Each activity must be analysed to prepare for identifying all of the hazards involved. Sources or situations with a potential for harm, in terms of human injury or ill health or a combination of these must be recorded. This may well mean that some tasks will require to be broken down further into component elements and recorded as a separate activity line within the Task Inventory Existing Controls: Identification of existing controls. For example, but not limited to workplace precautions, such as physical safeguards, containment of airborne contaminants and noise, safe systems of work, competency and training, and personal protective equipment.
